This holds a special place in Helena’s heart, more than any other modality. Along with the support of Chinese Medicine, this practice, is what healed a stubborn chronic health condition for her. There are many forms of qigong out there, and this practice is called yuan gong. Safety, enjoyment and efficiency lie at the heart of this practice. It’s part of a larger system of Taoist life cultivation, called Ren Xue. Helena has studied and applied this system in her life for 13 years and it continues to uplift her life in ways not thought possible. She tried many other therapies and internal meditation systems before this, but they were missing a key component, that is, grounding and strengthening the body. She observed the long-standing practitioners of these traditions, and whilst they had amazing transcendent experiences, their bodies weren’t in great shape, and their daily lives in society had only changed a fraction. Many of us are already dissociated from our bodies, so more disembodiment doesn’t serve us at best, and can be harmful.
When the body is tipped so far over the line, external therapies on their own can only help so much. We need to support them with our own internal resources, so they can work in the best possible way, that way they have some spark/ material to work with. Otherwise, it’s like trying to light a fire without much fuel. Qi is our life-force, and when we are born it’s like a bank account, we have a finite amount. Modern life goes against nature, so we spend our qi account prematurely, dispersing it in many different directions, resulting in premature ageing, chronic health conditions. When one observes young children (before the schooling system), they seem to have endless amounts of energy, wonder, openness, and joy. It is our birthright to still feel that way too, but somehow it was lost and forgotten, in a confused society not based on wisdom and truth. If we look at the state of the world today, and the collapse of these outdated systems, we can see how growing in this information field has informed our nervous systems in an unhealthy way. Yuan Gong qi gong is based on the ancient philosophical wisdom tradition of the Tao, which is based on the observation of nature and its laws. It’s only when return to the laws of life, that we can feel true happiness, wellbeing and growth.
